All homework will be sent home on Monday and is expected to be sent back to school in your child's homework folder on Friday. During the beginning of the year the homework assignments will consist of handwriting worksheets. As we progress, I will add math homework and make the language arts homework different.
In addition to this, I would like you to read to/with your child for 10-20 minutes each day. If they can be reading to you, then that is even better! A reading calendar is sent home at the beginning of each month and is expected to be returned on the last Friday of each month (or if the last day falls on a Wednesday, etc. please just turn it in that Friday) If your child returns their reading calendar, they will receive a certificate for a free pizza from Pizza Hut!
Each child also has their own set of sight words that they are on. They will be tested on a set each Thursday. But if your child is ready to pass off that set before Thursday, please send me a note or email saying so.
Books in a bag are also on an individual level. Please always return your child's book inside the ziplock bag with their name on it and a note saying they are ready for the next book. Keep the book you have until your child can read it fluently without any help. If you come to find that a level of book is too simple or too frustrating for your child, let me know and I will adjust their books. These books are also available at the Herriman City Library- you can read more at home or while we are off track. Just send in a note letting me know which book you need me to skip them to if you have done this.
