We were striving to do 100 acts of kindness from Martin Luther King Jr. day to Valentine's Day. If we reached 100 we got a class party. Well we had over 200 so we not only had a party on Valentine's Day but I got the children a special treat. It was so great to watch everyone become more aware of their actions. Thank you to everyone who sent in acts that their child performed!

100 reasons to love kindergarten
With the 100th day of school and Valentine's Day so close together we came up with 100 reasons why we love kindergarten. It was so fun to read all of them. And these kids give me 48 reasons to love my job!

Valentine's Day Information
-->
Sorry
these didn’t get out Monday as I was out sick. But here is (hopefully) all of
the information you will need regarding Valentine’s Day in our classroom. We have already made our Valentine’s Day
boxes that student’s will collect their Valentine’s in- so no need to worry
about making one at home. If your child plans on bringing Valentine’s to school
make sure there is enough for everybody.
AM
has 19 boys and 5 girls (24 total)
PM
has 9 boys and 15 girls (24 total)
*In
order to insure that we can pass out our Valentine’s in a timely manner, please
do not put individual names on the Valentine’s.
We
will be doing some fun Valentine’s Day math and language arts activities
in class. After recess we will have our
party. The AM party will be from 10:15ish-11:18 and the PM party will be from 2:30ish-3:25.
We have volunteers in charge of games for the PM class already. If you would
like to help with AM please contact Lindsey Carcamo at Lindsey.carcamo@gmail.com. If you are coming
to our party, please leave siblings at home to keep the chaos to a minimum.
Also,
regarding the math books that were sent home. We covered the material from the
end of the book before we went off track in December. Some students expressed
interest in getting to keep the “puppy books” so I let them keep them.
Thank
you for your help with this! If you have any questions feel free to contact me!

Dentist Visit
We had some dentists come into our class to talk about healthy teeth habits. The children had so much fun practicing on the toy horse. We will continue to learn about dental health the rest of this week.

Inside Recess
With the weather being so cold, we have had to do a lot of inside recess days lately. We've been keeping the students active by having them do some fun workout videos. It's very entertaining to watch them follow along and everyone gets their wiggles out! :)

Gingerbread Man
Thank you to everyone who helped with our gingerbread man hunt. It was so fun for the students to hear from people they knew. It also was a fun way for us to introduce geography and learn more about the world!

Polar Express Party and Santa's Visit
Our Polar Express party was a huge success! Thank you to everyone who donated and helped out. Santa made a visit during the movie to pass out candy canes. And we even had enough time at the end to have a dance party! The children had such a wonderful time!

Christmas Time
Our grade was in charge of decorating the glass case in the main hallway across from our room this month. We sewed yarn stockings and hung them by the "fireplace". I also decorated our door to look like a reindeer stable!

Digraph's
We have been working on learning some digraphs. A digraph is a combination of two letters representing one sound, as in ph and ey. The digraph's we have learned about so far are th, sh, ch, wh. We sing a song to the tune of BINGO- It goes like this:
There are some letters when put together
that make a new sound
t-h th th th
s-h sh sh sh
c-h ch ch ch
and w-h wh wh wh
We also made some words using these digraphs and put them on spider legs.

Writing Progress
As a class, we are working on progressing in writing. We have learned several sight words together as a class and try to incorporate them into our writing as much as we can. We are also practicing sounding out words (phonetically) all by ourselves!

Teddy Bear Picnic
Our Teddy Bear Picnic was a huge success! Not only did the students get to enjoy an afternoon of picnicking with family and friends, but they got to practice their new math skills in a fun way. We sorted our stuffed animals into different categories, made a human bar graph, and recorded our results on a real graph. Thank you to everyone who helped to make this afternoon one to remember!
As always, if you have any pictures you'd like to share, please email them to me for our class end of year DVD!
